I saw Mr Laing on 16 March after suffering from a trapped nerve for 2 months. After seeing my MRI, Mr Laing reassured me and informed me that, although it is very painful at the moment, it will get better within 3 months, that I have to be patient and take it easy. I was relieved that I didn't need an operation. He also recommended to check the ergonomics at work because I teach online. I am happy to say that after three months I am almost feeling myself again. Thank you Mr Laing for your advice and understanding.

Despite months of physiotherapy, the pain in my back and the numbness in my legs and feet was becoming debilitating to such a degree that my quality of life was very poor. Following a Zoom consultation with Mr Laing at which he explained the result of the MRI scan, he assured me that he could make me better, which immediately lifted my spirits. He explained that I needed to have 3 level spinal decompression and this was done two weeks ago at the Nuffield Hospital in Cambridge. I am hugely improved already with no pain at all and with the numbness in my legs and feet decreasing every day. I cannot thank or recommend Mr Laing highly enough. He is an amazing surgeon and a very kind man.

I was initially introduced to Mr Laing via Dynamic Health (Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust) physio service, to which I was referred by my local GP after a rapid further deterioration in my condition during the pandemic. Prior to my first consultation with Mr Laing, I had an MRI at Addenbrookes Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Mr Laing was able to show me the results of my scan digitally during our Zoom call which was both impressive and incredibly useful. Using Zoom for a personal health consultation can be intimidating and sometimes feel impersonal but during lockdown this was the only practical option and it has worked well once you get used to it. I was put in a virtual waiting room for a few minutes before the call began. Mr Laing is a very direct, down to earth, practical, no nonsense and honest chap who may not always appreciate how a patient might need to describe their personal experience in non-clinical ways. Having said that, that matters little to me because as far as I am concerned he operates at the top of his profession, has a huge amount of experience and is absolutely the person you would want to operate on you if you ever need this intervention. My experience has been very positive so far and although I am in the early days of recuperation I am confident that Mr Laing is the best at what he does. He was recently profiled in a BBC series which is worth watching because it demonstrates his competence, commitment and humanity. I recommend him highly. In my case, his treatment has been timely and effective, enabling me to live with considerably less discomfort and greater mobility.

Good consultation. Mr Laing listened carefully and explained scans in great detail. Pros and cons of treatments discussed honestly. Considered opinion given at the end of the session. Not hurried at all. Happy for my husband to be there too.

I was referred to Mr Laing following worsening symptoms of spinal stenosis. From the first video consultation, when he talked me through the MRI scan and recommended decompression surgery, through the operation via microsurgery at the Cambridge Nuffield hospital to another video consultation 10 days afterwards, Mr. Laing, his team and the staff at the Nuffield inspired great confidence. The operation would appear to have cured my symptoms and I cannot recommend Mr Laing and his team highly enough. I do not think that the care I received could have been any better. Graham Able
